  • Yield: 10 1x

Description

These French bread rolls are perfectly crusty on the outside with a chewy, tender interior. A simple recipe that’s ideal for dinner rolls, sandwiches, or dipping in soups and sauces!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g all-purpose or bread flour
  • 350ml lukewarm water
  • 7g instant yeast
  • 10g salt
  • 10g sugar

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Dough

  • Mix flour, salt, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Slowly add water, mixing until a shaggy dough forms. Knead for 8-10 minutes by hand or 5-6 minutes in a mixer until smooth and elastic.

Step 2: First Rise

  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise at room temperature for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.

Step 3: Shape Rolls

  • Deflate dough and divide into 8-10 equal portions. Shape into balls, placing them on a lined baking tray with space between each. Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes.

Step 4: Preheat Oven

  • Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Place an empty roasting pan on the bottom rack for steam.

Step 5: Bake Rolls

  • Add boiling water to the roasting pan, quickly place the tray with rolls in the oven, and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly on a wire rack.

Notes

  • For a deeper crust, spray rolls lightly with water before baking.
  • Store leftover rolls in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for later use.
