Ingredients
- All-purpose flour – 4 cups (500g)
- Whole milk – 1 cup (240ml), room temperature
- Unsalted butter – ½ cup (115g), softened
- Granulated sugar – ¼ cup (50g)
- Active dry yeast – 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet)
- Eggs – 2 large, room temperature
- Salt – 1 tsp
Instructions
- Activate yeast: Combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 tbsp sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk flour, remaining sugar, and salt.
- Combine ingredients: Add yeast mixture, eggs, and softened butter to the dry mix. Stir until combined, then knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
- First rise: Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Shape rolls: Punch down the dough, divide into equal portions, and shape into balls. Arrange on a lined baking sheet.
- Second rise: Cover rolls and let rise for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Egg wash: Brush rolls with a mixture of 1 beaten egg and 1 tbsp milk for a shiny finish.
- Bake: Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For added sweetness, brush rolls with melted butter and sprinkle sugar on top before baking.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
