Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for chocolate layer)
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, pureed (for strawberry layer)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease three round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients while alternating with milk until fully combined.
  4. Divide the batter into three equal parts: mix cocoa powder into one part for the chocolate layer, fold in pureed strawberries into another for the strawberry layer, and leave one part plain for the vanilla layer.
  5. Pour each flavored batter into prepared pans and bake for about 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Once cooled completely, stack layers in this order: vanilla on bottom, chocolate in middle, strawberry on top. Frost between layers as desired.
