Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
1 large egg
1/4 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons red food coloring (gel preferred)
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
In another bowl, beat butter with granulated and brown sugars until fluffy. Add egg, vanilla, buttermilk, and red food coloring; mix until combined.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
Scoop rounded balls of dough onto prepared sheets, leaving space between them.
Bake for about 10 minutes or until edges are set but centers remain soft. Cool on wire racks.
Notes
For added texture, consider mixing in nuts or using different types of chocolate chips like dark or white chocolate.
Chill your dough for at least 30 minutes before baking to prevent excessive spreading.
